Hugh
Ross
Born in 1835
in Scotland, probably on South Uist. Died May 14, 1900 in Elkland township, Michigan. He
came to America from South Uist Scotland in 1849 with 800 - 1000 others aboard three
ships. He was one of the first to cross the border and settle in Michigan. He crossed over
frozen lake Huron in December of 1866 with Mary and carrying three day old Angus in their
arms, so the story has been passed down to us. |

Mary McIntyre
was born in 1828 on South Uist Scotland. She came across the ocean in 1849 with 800 - 1000
other S.Uist residents when they were forced to leave by the chiefs who wanted to reduce
the population to make room for raising cattle. Their journey to Ontario Canada is an
incredible story of hardship and fortitude. In the 1860's she left West Williams township
and came to Bad Axe Michigan with her husband where they farmed and raised their three
sons.
She died Sept
13, 1931. |

Hugh and
Mary had three sons. When they grew up they had farms next door to each other in the
country near Sheridan Michigan. Angus married and moved to Detroit. Collin and his family
moved to Saginaw. John stayed on his farm near Sheridan and raised eleven kids. Click on
