The Bicycle Bus

Your comments, opinions, and brainstorms....

Has God ever caused you to change your life? To love with all your heart? To do something for the sake of God, no matter the outcome?

I was with a group of people in a school bus in 1968 when the bus was struck by lightning. I was beneath the bus laying in the mud, bolting a starter into the engine. The lightning went through the bus, through me, and into the ground. Dan was on top of the engine helping me. He said I turned florescent blue and he could see through me. My life changed drastically afterwards. God gave me the lighting so that I will never doubt. I wandered North America non stop, speaking out against the war machines. In 1971 I went to prison for my beliefs, a war-resistor. The highlight of those 18 months incarceration was the day I shook hands with Catholic priest Daniel Berrigan, who was also a prisoner in the same prison, for a similar"crime". Eventually all my charges were dismissed and I was released from prison.  Discovery_Bay.jpg (45665 bytes)

I continued to travel, met my wife in 1975 and we traveled together then. We created the Bikebus and were on the road for many years.

Aside from telling our own story, one of the purposes of this website is to bring persecuted innocents to the notice of humanity. Persecuted people who serve God and speak out for the heart of the world.

One of the important messages I would bring to your attention today is the situation of the Plowshares Trial, the verdict is in. The Catholic priests and their friends have been convicted. They are elderly people of God. They face ten years in prison.

The Bicycle Bus has been a well-known fixture of the Northwest for nearly two decades. Our original objective was to repair bicycles for low income people on Indian reservations and in small out-of-the-way towns. My name is RomTom. My wife, Ellie, and I are the owners of the Bikebus. On this website we will tell you the bus's history, and some of our adventures. Just click on the "History of the Bike Bus" link up above and you will find many pages of photographs and thoughts.  We hope to get a message board going here before long. We also still have a few antique bikes left which we hope to sell. Come and visit with us for a little while. Ellie will put on a pot of coffee and we'll have a good time for sure. It is good to meetcha.
